{"id":30298,"date":"2022-06-22T11:12:31","date_gmt":"2022-06-22T15:12:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.iridian.ca\/?p=30298"},"modified":"2022-06-22T11:12:31","modified_gmt":"2022-06-22T15:12:31","slug":"automation-engineer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.iridian.ca\/zh-hans\/careers\/automation-engineer\/","title":{"rendered":"Automation Engineer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Department: Research and Development <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Location: Swansea<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Reporting: JD<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Summary Statement<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Iridian is seeking an enthusiastic Automation Engineer looking to join an agile and fast-paced manufacturing R&amp;D team responsible for automation of a suite of cutting-edge vacuum thin-film deposition systems and post-processing equipment.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This is a multidisciplinary role that is responsible for developing technical solutions to advanced manufacturing problems in all areas of operation.\u00a0 The role encompasses all phases from design through development and implementation, as well as ongoing operational support and process troubleshooting.\u00a0 The ideal candidate will have broad interests in engineering, computing, instrumentation, mathematics, and physics; additionally with a passion for continued learning and fresh challenges.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Major Duties and Responsibilities<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Maintaining and improving existing manufacturing systems.<\/li>\n<li>Development of new automation systems.<\/li>\n<li>Troubleshooting, debugging, and solving problems<\/li>\n<li>Work with R&amp;D, manufacturing, polishing, and characterization groups as required to implement new manufacturing processes.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Qualifications and Skills<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Passion for solving complex problems and continuous learning<\/li>\n<li>Degree in engineering, computer science, physics, or equivalent.<\/li>\n<li>Strong programming skills and interest, both UI\/HMI and front-end work as well as business logic, process sequencing, and SQL database interaction.\u00a0 Familiarity with concurrent and multithreaded software development.\u00a0 Machine vision experience a bonus.<\/li>\n<li>Able to collaborate with various groups and to prioritize work.<\/li>\n<li>Strong manual technical skills, especially mechanical and electrical (wire fitting, soldering, using mechanical tools, etc).<\/li>\n<li>Familiarity with automation systems, PLC ladder logic, industrial I\/O, servo and stepper motors, pneumatic actuators, relays, contactors, analog and discrete sensors, PID, and various communication protocols.<\/li>\n<li>Familiarity with IT systems and networking, particularly in a Windows domain environment<\/li>\n<li>Excellent communication skills, ability to generate clear, precise reports and documentation.<\/li>\n<li>Familiarity with vacuum systems (mechanical, cryogenic, turbomolecular pumps) a bonus<\/li>\n<li>Familiarity with AC or DC magnetron sputtering a bonus<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Familiarity with optics, lasers, imaging, and spectroscopy a bonus<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Working Conditions<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Work is divided between design, development, and implementation work with a typical day seeing a mix of desk-based work as well as hands-on debugging, troubleshooting, and implementation work on the factory floor.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Type of Supervision Received <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Works mostly independently to prioritize and perform tasks under direction of (JD).\u00a0 Mentoring and on-the-job training will be provided as needed.
